Some people give egg yolk or egg white to babies or even to the newborns. But this approach is not good. Side effects of giving eggs:

Recent studies have shown that there are no side effects of giving properly cooked eggs after the age of 6 months. But giving un-cooked eggs to your babies can cause following side effects:

  • Raw eggs have salmonella bacteria which cause infection in babies. As baby’s immunity is not fully matured.
  • Raw eggs or eggs before the age of 6 months may introduce allergic reations. Like digestive problems diarrhoea, skin problems like rashes and respiratory problems like runny nose.

Precautions during giving eggs to babies:

  • Always give properly cooked egg to your baby ( full boiled / full fry )
  • Introduce eggs after the age of 6 months.
  • Start with small quantity. Give egg to your baby through three consective days to check any signs of allergy.
  • If someone in your family is allergic to eggs. Then you must consult your doctor before introducing it to your baby
  • Always give properly mashed food to your baby to avoid choking.

Health benefits of eggs:

  • 1 egg is a complete source of proteins.
  • It is a great source of iron, vitamin A, D, E and B12.
  • It also contains choline which helps in brain development of babies.
  • So, the eggs are essential part of babies diet which helps in growth and development but it must be properly cooked and should be introduced after the age of 6 months.
